The first mosaic
The first mosaic was found lower down and can be dated to around the fourth century AD. It shows a circular decorative motif and part of a frame adorned with elegant columns topped with hanging capitals
The second mosaic
The second mosaic, found at a higher level than the first one and dating from between the fifth and sixth centuries AD, shows a geometric, floral decoration arranged in hexagons framed by a braid pattern. The offerants’ inscription and the central image of the water-filled Kantharos with fish floating around it refer to Christian purification symbolism and make it possible to determine that the mosaic belonged to a place of Christian worship, possibly Parma’s first cathedral.
