The original structure
At the centre of the structure, which faced the assembly, was the marble slab of the Deposition, now located in the right transept of the Cathedral. The National Art Gallery of Parma houses the capitals and a second lateral slab, later stripped of Antelami’s reliefs in order to obtain a tombstone. The ambo was supported by 4 capitals: the first is the Expulsion from Paradise on Earth; the second is the hard work or the work of the land to which they have been condemned; Offerings of the fruits of their toil and the fourth is the murder of Abel by Cain.
End of the second slab
In recent years an end of the side slab, in which one can still see the impost of the figure of an angel, has been recovered.
The four lions
The entire structure was supported by these four lions, which recall those outside the Cathedral.
