The Chapel of the Fallen
Formerly known as the Baiardi Chapel, in 1919 Saint Guido Maria Conforti had the chapel dedicated to the fallen of the First World War, whose names cover the lower walls on all sides.
The City Chapel
The chapel was commissioned by the City of Parma as an offering after the plague had ravaged the community between 1410 and 1411.
The Centoni Chapel
The frescoes recount the life of Saint Anthony and his tremendous battles against the devil. They were painted by Rondani, who had collaborated with Correggio on the plasterwork in the Cathedral and the nearby San Giovanni Church.
The ancona on the altar was painted on wood by Parma-born artist Alessandro Araldi in 1516. It depicts the Virgin and Child with Saint Anthony and Saint Paul. Kneeling to the right is Lodovico Centoni, who commissioned the piece.
The Chapel of Saint Agatha
This chapel was originally a small church outside the Cathedral: it was incorporated between 1575 and 1585. It now contains the tombs of bishops. To the right of the altar is a cenotaph dedicated to Petrarch, who was Archdeacon of the Cathedral for a number of years.
